Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

International Children's Peace Prize

The KidsRights Foundation invites organisations and governments to nominate a child between the age of 12-18 years old, who they think is performing extraordinary efforts to improve or implement children’s rights for themselves and children in their environment. The Children’s Peace Prize gives children a platform to speak and be recognised for standing up for these rights. The Prize is presented annually to a child whose actions and thoughts have made a difference in countering problems which affect children around the world.

The Children’s Peace Prize includes prize money that will be invested by KidsRights in specific projects related to the struggle for peace and children’s rights of the winner. Therefore, this year, projects will be supported to improve the rights of youth in refugee camps.

The winner of the International Children’s Peace Prize is awarded a statuette - 'the Nkosi' - and the platform of attention that the prize generates. In addition, the winner receives financial support for his/her studies.
