Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

The Corruption Tracker System (CTS) is designed to keep track of publicly available information on presumed or confirmed cases of corruption in order to increase accountability and responsiveness in the fight against corruption in Tanzania. The system is hosted and managed by Agenda Participation 2000, a Tanzanian non-governmental organisation working to promote a culture of good governance and democracy, and comprises of a website, an electronic monthly bulletin, and an electronic archive.
Communication Strategies

The Corruption Tracker System is designed to increase transparency and accountability of cases and increase citizen engagement in the fight against corruption. This includes establishing an electronic quick archive that can be accessed to monitor cases on corruption, establishing a mechanism that can be used as an instrument to assist state institutions to take action in response to corruption behaviours, and providing an electronic medium between the state institutions and public on issues related to corruption.

The methodology and nature of the system includes collection of information and synthesis of publicly available information on cases of corruption as reported or provided by the relevant government bodies, media, and civil society. This process involves working in close collaboration and liaison with major agencies involved in the fight against corruption, such as the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB), Ethics Commission, media institutions, and leading civil society organisations (CSOs) that are currently working on corruption issues.

The tracker system is managed by an editor who is directly responsible for collection and synthesis of the information and for presenting this information to an editorial board for discussion and final approval. The editorial board is comprised of 7-11 members who meet on a bimonthly basis to review and thoroughly discuss the information and update the online tracker and bulletin.

The system comprises of the Tanzania Corruption Tracker System website, an electronic monthly bulletin, and an electronic archive. The contents are regularly updated and anybody can receive the regular update and bulletin by subscribing online for a free electronic copy. Besides the Online electronic bulletin, a series of activities are planned for further dissemination of this information. They include public discussions, joint sensitisation activities with PCCB, and celebration of an anti-corruption day.
