100 Dúvidas (100 Doubts)
100 Dúvidas is broadcast every Tuesday morning on Radio Ecclesia, which covers the capital city of Luanda, with a population of between four and five million people. The programme is divided into a number of segments:
- Know Your Rights;
- Good Citizens;
- Your Opinion;
- reports on current events; and
- a follow-up on previous stories and listener suggestions.
The objective is to produce live, relevant programmes that follow current issues as they develop. Organisers say that the production team, which was trained by BBC Brazil journalist Graciela Damiano and local trainer Andre Mussamo, ensures that both sides of the story are heard and that Luanda's citizens are kept informed of their rights.
Some of the topics discussed in the radio programme have included:
- how to launch a complaint about the hospital system – including the admission of sick children to hospital rooms alongside children who have died;
- the demolition of economically poor suburbs and how this affects the land rights of citizens; and
- police fines and how to appeal against them.
In addition to listening to the programme on Radio Ecclesia, audiences can access 100 Dúvidas via a dedicated page on the Radio Ecclesia website (Portuguese). Listeners can send in suggestions by email or via a special phone line.
In the early part of 2010, the project launched a second edition of 100 Dúvidas to be aired on Thursday mornings. This programme involves a mobile studio going to a specific bairro in Luanda to report live on issues affecting the community. It invites audience members to call in and comment on the issues raised in the Tuesday edition of 100 Duvidas, and has a much higher degree of live reporting, debates, and interactivity than the first edition. BBC WST is also training the team on live reporting and studio debates to keep improving the quality of the programming as it continues to air.
Governance, Human Rights
According to organisers, feedback about the programme has been positive. One listener wrote, "I'm writing to you to congratulate you. I currently live abroad and I am thinking about returning to my home country, but I have been able to follow step by step the impartial, accurate, and high-quality news you are providing via the internet. I really hope that this programme will be successful and that it will allow the governing bodies to get closer to the person, which is essential in our country."
