Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Article 2 Newsletter

Article 2 is an online newsletter being planned, created and written by young people from around the world using online communication. The newsletter aims to be a forum of expression and an opportunity for youth voices to be heard on issues that are considered important to them.
Communication Strategies
The newsletter was created by young people who were regular participants in the Voices of Youth online chats and discussions. These young people 'met' online over a period of several months to develop the idea and plan the newsletter. The group has never met in person, and come from a diverse range of countries, such as Somaliland, Romania, France, Nigeria, Morocco, and Argentina.

The young people divided themselves into departments: editorial, distribution and promotion, and online administration. They also decided that each issue will have a theme, such as violence or HIV/AIDS, and each member of the organising team will write an article for each issue. The newsletter includes first-person narratives, interviews, and research-driven articles. To cut down on production costs and to make the newsletter more easily accessible to an unlimited audience, it is published online.

The newsletter was created by the young people in an effort to encourage other young people to take action and be aware about social issues. “We want to make everyone awake,” says Zuhur, 19 and from Somaliland, one of the organisers of the effort. “The biggest thing that frightens me is people who do nothing.”

Young people around the world are invited to contribute feedback, articles, personal experiences, photos, pictures, poems, or songs for inclusion in the newsletter.
