Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Blue Earth Alliance Photo Projects

Blue Earth Alliance sponsors photography projects that educate the public about threatened cultures, endangered environments, and other social concerns. Projects that meet this mission are invited to apply for sponsorship. The Alliance is primarily interested in work that is educational and informational in nature, and will consider proposals of any geographic scope, involving the photographic medium (but not motion picture projects). The contract sponsors a project for two years. Blue Earth provides assistance with organisation, raising funds, publishing, and publicity. Blue Earth Alliance does not make direct grants to sponsored projects.

Blue Earth sponsorship includes the offer of fiscal accountability, free access to a grant-writer, mentorship throughout the life of the sponsorship, use of the office wall space to showcase work, use of the mailing lists, help with public relations (PR) and marketing, and more. Blue Earth is a United States (US) nonprofit organisation, so projects are eligible to receive US tax deductible contributions from foundations and individuals. Proposals are accepted twice per year.
