Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Gender Audit: A Tool for Organizational Transformation

0 comments
SummaryText

InterAction’s Gender Audit is a process for organisational assessment and a tool for action planning. The participatory audit process is designed to help to identify organisational strengths and challenges to integrating gender in an organisation’s systems and operations and in programmes and projects. The Gender Audit tool can be used organisation-wide or in field offices, headquarters, or other organisational offices. The audit process requires commitment on the part of senior staff and the ability of a gender focal point or gender team to implement the audit process.

The audit process has three stages as described below, in addition to a recommended preparatory step. This preliminary step is to gain senior leadership buy-in and support for conducting the gender audit process. The gender audit stages include:

  1. Survey - the gender audit questionnaire;
  2. Focus Groups - follow-up to the survey, a series of focus group conversations and analysis; and
  3. Gender Plan of Action - building on the institutional strengths to form initiatives and strategies for ways to better integrate gender equality throughout the organisation.
