I Stories (The): Speaking Out on Gender Violence in Southern Africa
SummaryText
This illustrated publication represents a collection of 17 stories from men and women who have been survivors of violence. "The 'I' Stories" are described as offering testimony to the strength and courage of individuals who chose to speak out despite the risks associated with breaking the silence around the issue of gender violence. The stories come from five Southern African countries and are described as being told "simply and honestly by ordinary people in their own words."
The stories were developed as a result of a series of writing workshops held by Gender Links in partnership with the NISAA Institute for Women’s Development and ADAPT, as part of the South African Sixteen Days of Activism Against Gender Violence 2004 campaign. Similar processes were followed in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mauritius.
