Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Rodwel E-commerce Project - Zimbabwe

Rodwel Foundation E-commerce is an information and communication technologies (ICTs) project that provides capacity building, training and consultancy services to the community, support groups, youth, private companies and micro-enterprises. The project also provides ICTs for people to contribute to knowledge sharing, networking and electronic commerce activities.
Communication Strategies
The foundation offers training courses in:
  • E-commerce and fair trade (Internet)
  • Introduction to computers
  • M S Word
  • Pastel (Accounting software)
  • Web design
  • ICDL (International Computer Driving Licence)
  • Technician Certificate in Computers
The project helps to build and strengthen the capacity of communities by:
  • Marketing their commodities on the internet
  • Setting up their own e-mail accounts
  • Finding tools and resources on the Internet on specific issues
  • Having their documents typed, making use of the computer for word processing and typing services
  • Producing their own letter heads, business cards and brochures

Key Points
To offer quality services to the community and to co-operate and network with other initiatives that are actively concerned with worldwide issues. The organisers say their project's mission is to uplift the living conditions of families by providing excellent training, counselling and sourcing material support.
