Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
This book covers the issue of gender-based violence and includes results of the “Critical Path” study in Central America. It includes findings from almost a decade of field experiences by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and its partners in 10 Latin American countries.

The findings in this book are a collaborative effort on the part of: the Program for Appropriate Technology in Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the World Health Organization (WHO). The book includes insights by health workers, schoolteachers, police and court officials, women's advocates, and other community leaders regarding the effectiveness of the project's approach. The book offers insights from women who describe living with violence and the community's response to their needs. The book's final chapter presents a global perspective on how the lessons learned in Central America and PAHO's integrated strategy may be applied in other communities around the world.
